  • @neil7129 she's actually saying "watch out" in cantonese

  • I speak Canto myself but I can't even stand the commentator, I much prefer English or Mandarin, just way too harsh

  • @VocalMusicology This is Cantonese, which sounds a lot different than Mandarin; Mandarin has more 'upward' inflection, which makes it sound less 'harsh' than Cantonese. Cantonese to a native Mandarin speaker does seem very slang-like (no offense to Cantonese speakers! xD) - sort of like a Southern accent in American English.

  • This commentator makes me wonder what non-English speakers think of our vocal inflections. I realize that inflection is much more important in Chinese than in English, but I must admit that the language often sounds very aggressive to me. This commentator is an ideal example of that, she attacks every word ruthlessly! I'm sure that English must sound horrible to some non-English listeners too, and I'm so sorry to be so politically incorrect but this sounds HORRIBLE!

  • @goodyougetastar

That just proves the difference in the quality of Johnson versus most of the Chinese gymnasts.

  • she has beautiful jumps.

  • @bookiewormie1 Her A score was 7.0 not 7.5!

  • @AkronZip07 not when your start is 7.5

  • @QueenieQue Two years later, just to update the news, I think China's Tan Sixin gets a better height than Shanshan did! So happy that the Chinese are producing such talented gymnast!

  • @neil7129 It is actually english-combined cantonese, basically means "hold"
