Charlie Waters can spend the rest of his life dreaming about that happening.

What blew the game was White fumbling the ball on that last drive after the Pearson catch.

I remember this well. Quite a game. I thought Wright got two fingers on Pearsons colar. Correction, he got ONE finger on his colar.

Whey did I see this. It makes my stomach sick.

@22steve5150 Players support teammates. 'Boys wouldn't throw White under bus just like they didn't to Jackie S or Morton. It's the code.U don't publicly criticize a teammate. Morton nvr got respect due? R U kidding me? Study CM"s playoff stats w bad %, 3 TDs & 8 INTs: '69 Clev: 8-24-92-0-2 (Benched): 70: Det 4-18-38-0-1, SF 7-22-101-1-0, Bal 12-26-127-1-3 (LOST GM); 72 SF: 8-21-96-1-2,(Benched 3rd Q). CM deserved playoff respect? Dandy came close v 2 GREAT GB teams: He took such a beating. TUF

@22steve5150 Not meaning to be s stickler, but the score was never 28-17 in sb27. It was 31-10 Dal when Buf scored a TD on very last play of 3rd qtr to make it 31-17. I'll take your word for it that Smith fumbled on the next start of 4th qtr possession. Regardless, it doesn't change your correct point that no player is perfect. Just some are less perfect than others. Heck, Montana got benched in '87 Div playoffs in home loss to Minn when SF was favored to win the SB. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

@kthburke couple of notes. i remember 1 noteworthy smith screwup which was a fumble in sb27 right after buffalo scored to make it 28-17, had troy not fallen on it and recovered it the bills likely could have scored at least a field goal if not a TD (i believe it was in DAL territory) which might have changed the tone of the game. other than that and the the performance in the 95 superbowl (his worst playoff performance by far) he was probably the ultimate big gamer (postseason, mnf, thursday)

@kthburke well that is just my point. white made his share of mistakes but it's not like the team itself played brilliant football in all 3 games and there was just this fuck up quarterback who messed it up, which is the way too many fans seem to remember it. i think that landry, staubach, dorsett, waters, hill, and pearson in interviews about white have demonstrated what THEY thought of him, and they thought pretty highly. just like meredith and morton he never got the respect due

@22steve5150 Addl comment on Philly game. It was bitterly cold with very high winds, so neither team could pass. Despite Philly's run dominance, the score was 7-7 midway 3rd, due to some botched Philly FGs & 2 Jaws INT's. Then White fumbled deep in Dal territory to set up FG for 10-7. White hit Saldi next ser for 28 yds to cross 50. But Dorsett then had a backbreaking fumble, which a def back scooped & returned 30 yds. RB Harris then ran in fr the 9 for 17-7 late 3rd to ice game. TD screwed up

@22steve5150 I can't believe I'm hotly debating an apparent Cowboys fan. I likely wouldn't have engaged w/o your "bullshit" intro. "I strongly disagree" suffices. I wasn't offended. It just got me motivated to debate. If you want to keep playing ping pong, fine. Whatever you decide, while I disagree with some of your opinions I respect them. None of this gets my dander up. I have a passion for NFL history, especially the 1966-82 Cowboys. U seem to have a good level of passion too.Have a good day

@22steve5150 I've studied all 3 gms closely. White threw for 173 yds vs SF w Net Pass Yds of 135. W my great memory, I recall 1 key Dorsett playoff fumble (in that Philly gm), 1 key Aikman INT (pick 6 TD in 94 Chmp gm @ SF on 1st drive),2 Roger int's (1 each vs Pitt in SB X & XIII), & ZERO Emmitt playoff screw ups (tell me Smith's screw ups).Between the 4 players they won 5 SB's & reached 2 others. Dallas did not fall off until the 83 season.Chek 80-82 season stats. Dal was a 4 pt FAVORITE @ SF

@22steve5150 Before the Doomday D gave up the 89 yd TD drive, following a Walls INT with 8+ min left Dal had the ball w chance to run down or out clock. After gaining 1 1st down, on 3rd & 6 White overthrew an open Doug Donley on an 8 yard pass 4 the 1st down. White failed, we punted, and rest is history. Winning QB's don't lose fumbles in 3 of 3 champ gms. As far as being HANDLED, Dal had 340 ttl yds to Skins' 260 & Wash avg'd 3.4 yds per carry. If that's being HANDLED, so be it
Was that a horse-collar?

@dolphinsneu I'm pretty sure it would be a horse-collar by today's rules but they didn't have that rule back then.
