  • I love seeing all these people making comments like -- it must be a bunch of volunteers --- or something like that and most people seem to not remember that its somewhere around 75% of firefighters in the whole country are volunteers. Most of the emergencies and the fires in the US are fought by volunteers. Remember that next time someone on here decides to say some crap about volunteers. I know volunteers that are better firefighters than most paid guys

  • I can't stand it when people say something about the Volunteer Fireman and always say it was their fault when something goes wrong or if they weren't there then it wouldn't have ever happened, you have to remember that most firefighters are volunteers and only a small fraction are paid the only difference between them is that Volunteers do it for free because they want to help and then after they get off work they risk their lives or vice versa

  • @milky1514, If you are closing doors as you go then you are performing a search without a hose line, which is ignorant. And yes vertical ventilation is dangerous especially in modern homes with cheap construction. Climbing ont o a roof thats supported by truss, and gusset plates that fail with 4 mins of fire exposure is insane too. Better option is horizontal vent. and Positive pressure attack.

  • @milky1514, your pulse spraying technique is called penciling, quick burst into the smoke, cooling the gases, reducing fingering. and hopefully reducing or eliminating Flashover. The extreme fire behavior you say is "backdraft" that you are trying to prevent is really Flashover. If it were a backdraft you would not be preventing it because if would have already exploded the minute you introduced oxygen into the room.

  • @jakemcc272 your a fool for your comment, paid or vol it doesnt matter both have people who have no business in this line of work. the last part of your statement makes you look like a jackass , rolling my eyes now lol really out f#$k. just so you know its called the rescue randys that make alot of companies and depts look bad and both have them. i was a vol for 3 yrs before i got hired so 21 yrs of service has a paid and unpaid professional

  • @tom79g i agree. i know volunteer fire fighters that can out fight, out think and out fuck most paid fire fighters

  • This was just a bad fire, they did everything right, things just developed faster than they usually do. Ventilating the roof was the way to go, nothing else you can do about a fire like that.

  • @tom79g just joined my city's FD and there are only 2 paid members there, just shows how little people know. As in ppl commenting here.

  • @RebelSwirley Made Lt. in 2.5 years...I can see by your spelling it wasn't through book learning. You must be on one busy department to get the hands on skills................LoL

  • @XxDarkPheonixLordxX The purpose behind Ventilation is not to keep the flames in one area the fire can spread alot faster with the use of ventilation. However ventilating a room is for the Firefighters insdie to beable to attack the fire not to segregate it from the rest of the house. If you do not ventilate the house then the firefighters inside cant see how close they are geting to the fire. all they see is black smoke with no ventilation

  • @tom79g Im a volunteer just made Lt today n ive busted my ass off far 2 1/2yrs not far just the rank to help ppl. so if anybody wants to say something about volunteers go ahead. ur jus to scared to do it. We fight what you fear

  • @XxDarkPheonixLordxX So how do you expliain the numerous US firefighting videos posted on You Tube that show 'ventilation' causing an immediate and rapid spread of the fire through the whole building? Going by these videos US fire fighters ventilate too often, too early, and most often inappropriately. But they do it because thats the way it's always been done.
