Before the debate begins, please keep in mind that these are tongues being spoken in a prayer service. 1 Corinthians 14:2 says, "For he who speaks in unknown tongues speaks not unto men, but unto GOD". 1 Corinthians 14:14 says, "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays". Notice that there are prayer tongues being spoken to God as well as prophecy in this service (1 Corinthians 14:5).

The doctrine of tongues is one of the most misunderstood doctrines of the New Testament. There are at least two different types of tongues, namely those that require interpretation (for edification) and those that are spoken to God in prayer (which need no interpretation because God understands all).
