This sinkhole was caused by water seepage into a oil by-product storage dome made from an underground salt deposit on private property. It had been ignored for inspection by the state inspectors for such things. It's full of water now and supposedly stable. See it now on Google Earth. Put in Daisetta, Texas and zoom way in. It appears as a huge black spot in the center of town, along the major road. It was quite a sensation when it occurred and calls came in from all over the world.
