That's horrible. Obviously he doesn't want to be held like that. I've had 4 westies and all were as sweet as could be.

@ErinAshlie100 nah, a lot of westies do that, if he honestly wanted her to stop he'd have snacked at her. My westie growls rediculously, not as bad as that but its just him, sometimes we think its the only noise he knows how to make. Its a common westie thing, look it up.

Westies are just loud they wouldn't dare to bite his/her owner.

And another this is that Westies are not huggy snuggly lap dogs. Mine stay just out of reach so you can pet them but not smother them. They are very good loyal dogs, but most of them are independent. When you talk baby talk and get in their face, they see you as submissive and they take charge. Puppys lick an adult dogs face to ask for food. When you kiss a Westies face, you are being a puppy not the boss.

The dog is growling because his belly is exposed. While he is in this position a large predator could tear out his belly. See what I mean? It's instinct that makes him growl as a warning. I have had many Westies. The alpha ones don't like to be put in a submissive position like that. It's better to wait till they are lying down and relaxed and playful to put them in this position. You assert that you are boss and they learn to trust you.

My Westie does this if you pick him up while he's preoccupied. He usually growls and gives me sugar at the same time lol. I don't think she's hurting him, Westies can be a bit growly and even snappy compared to some other breeds.
You want this to stop? The listen ahead.
a. You're being REALLY tense with this guy. STOP IT.
b. You actually petting him when he's aggressive like that. Only give affection when he's calm.
c. If he does give warnings like that snap him out of it (remaining calm and assertive) by touch the neck or if you have the lead give a little tug to the side.
But above all please respect your dog! He's not develish
JUst think on what YOU'RE doing.

hahahaha!
good grief I don't hurt my dog! This is something that started happening when only my mom picks him up..he rarely does this..it just cracks us up. AND he jumped in her lap licking her face right after this was taken to do it again. He loves her!
I'm glad you all have docile Westies..but ours are feisty!

Watch my other video of Chopper to see that he does behave somewhat normal!

"Terrier", from the Latin for earth. Bred to chase badgers and rabbits into their burrows and drag them out. You can't expect them to be passive 24/7.

That is Chopper exactly. I should post a video of what he does to our innocent sleeping German Shepherd that is minding her own business. This dog is a lunatic! But I love him
