  • Sorry, I've changed my mind - Richard Thompson is "probably the world's greatest living electric guitarist" :o)

  • Steuart, not Stuart

  • Corrected. Thank you

  • Saw the Eagles live a few years back. Great concert but after a few songs my eyes were constantly drawn the "new" guy Steuart. What a serious talent! Poor Joe Walsh could only pretend to keep up. Go Steuart!

  • It's a shame that the Eagles and Don Felder couldn't mend their diff's - and Steuart had nothing to do with his losing his position. That said, Steuart has the Eagles job as long as he wants it, according to Henley. Being an old friend and longtime fan of Steuart's since his days in "Cryin' Out Loud", "Root Boy Slim" and other DC acts of the late 70's and early 80's, I'm thrilled to see him getting the much overdue attention he's deserved for so many years. Finest guitar player I've seen!

  • @mooseontheloose : Richard Thompson is one of my favorite guitar players AND one of my favorite songwriter. This steuart Smith iss a killer definitely. Didn't know him until i saw his name on the Eagles wikipedia page.

  • Steuart Smith was wonderful with Roseanne Cash and I had the privilege of seeing him with The Eagles at Twickenham a few years ago. If anyone can take the place of Don Felder, he can - a great talent, finally getting some of the recognition that he deserves.

  • @bebopPete .....you left out Gary Rossington and Kenny Vaughan. I wouldn't put any one of those guys, including Steuart Smith above any of the others. They are all great pickers.

  • sometimes ya just gotta leave the steel guitar out of it

  • I saw him with the eagles in Bangkok a few years ago and didn't know who he was. But he sure played the heck out of that guitar. Thanks for posting this.

  • @bebopPete

Your list is full of great Pioneers rather than great players for me mate (all good players though). Smith is an exceptionally rare talent who is easily every bit as good, and in most cases a whole lot better. If you met your list and asked them about Steuart Smith they'd all tell you the same. Being a great Pioneer doesn't make you a great guitarist I'm afraid (Hendrix case in point).

You're more than entitled to your opinion, maybe Steuart isn't mainstream enough for some folks.

  • @Hoppo75

Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Don Felder, Jerry Garcia, Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter, 'The Reverend' Billy Gibbons, Duane 'Skydog' Allman, Dickey Betts, and Alex Lifeson.

  • @bebopPete

Who would you put into that exclusive list above him then?

  • Steuart Smith is simply one of the best. I saw him with Roseanne Cash and his playing was jaw dropping. His right hand work is incredible. People talk of great guitarists. They should see and hear SS before making a comment.
