Keith Kizer doesn't think the judging can be improved. I don't think he, nor anybody else is trying hard enough. This isn't even my job, but at least I'm trying to think of new ideas.

  • I think that there should more judges and that they should be confined to a room that blocks them off from the audience noise and the commentating and be seated in front of a large, very clear television, viewing the fight, therefore they can see from the best vantage point at all times, instead of watching it live and being only able to see it from one vantage point, of which may not be the best at all times. And there should be a judging school out there.

  • Agreed, but i think the mma judging can still be fixed with the 10 point system if you can get judges whom arent afraid to score a round a draw or 10-10 or at least 10-7 for that matter most MMA judges tend to be boxing judges whom probably wont understand the amount of damage that even leg kicks can do.

  • I guess it's a step in the right direction anyhow.

They would probably want more judges, or not single out disciplines like boxing etc. Otherwise you'd need different judges for the minor martial arts in which people use such as karate, judo etc.

  • Agreed 100% when I was thinking about it in my head thats pretty much how I broke it down. the 10 point system sucks. It makes no sense, why does a fighter get 8 points if he was completely dominated? just cuz he was defending? why does a fighter get 9 points if he was partialy dominated? ridiculous. theres more to a contest than just a 1 or 2 point advantage, in pretty much every sport. you cant get by on defense alone, and you shouldnt.

  • this may be the best video you've done. You present the subject and your alternatives very well, but don't act like you've got all the answers (which I'm sure you've seen many anonymous "experts" on messages boards do). Great job!

  • well its just a rough sketch, of coarse you have to factor in effectiveness of the strikes and other variables.

  • I think you could keep the 10-point system, as long as you get more educated judges.

Like people who actually know MMA, not just random people or boxing judges.

Hell, get some fellow MMA fighters in there to judge, anything but these idiots.

  • Well also the 10 round must system is great for boxing. If the other fighter gets knocked down, then you are down another point & usually lose the round. Bringing it into MMA, no one knows when to give 10-8 rounds because knockdown rules doesn't apply to MMA. The other problems is that judges don't know what to judge. Flat out don't know what to judge & that part has nothing to do with the 10 point system.

  • I'll keep repeating myself but change it to the way that Japan judges the fight.

  • If 2 fighters exchange punches and score for boxing then one throws some knees or elbows but the other doesn't, that person would score good points for muay thai. Even if the other person dominates on the ground it could be a draw using that methodology.
