" Sequence of Events! Sequence of Events! I can tell you the SEQUENCE OF EVENTS! First...Next...And then...In the end..., First...Next...And then...In the end... Sequence of Events! Sequence of Events! I can tell you the SEQUENCE OF EVENTS! "

I do realize there will be those who teach their students to use other, even better, order/transition words when recounting the sequence of events of a story.

Perfect!

I too teach my students to use a variety of words and phrases when writing and orally recounting a story's main events. However, the words we use in our chant worked best in the initial creation of it.

The most important thing is that in the beginning of teaching this strategy, students learn certain words SHOULD be attached to retelling events in a specific order.

Plus, these order words have been a great launching point to discussions about other ORDER WORDS.

  • I love it!

  • Thank you for posting this! I am a student teacher, I am having an evaluation tomorrow. I needed to add some "punch to my lesson". I love your sequence song, I think it will add fun and help the students remember !

  • Brenda, thanks for this. I'll try to get it at school for my kids.
