This lesson aims to inform you of six psycholoigical "wounds" that occur in average young kids who are traumatized by their adults, and how to assess for the wounds and reduce them. Lesson 1 includes related YouTube videos, and other resources, including the author's guidebook "Who's REALLY Running Your Life?" (Xlibris, com, 4th ed, 2011) Lesson 1 is the key to all 6 other Lessons. See ad-free nonprofit Lesson 1 at http://sfhelp.org/gwc/guide1.htm

Hi Pete, I'm curious to know your take on OCD. Nature? Nurture? Combo of both? Thanks for the wonderful videos.

I believe that most or all "mental disorders" - including OCD - are symptoms of inherited psychological wounds from early-childhood abandonment, neglect, and abuse ("trauma"). See sfhelp.org/gwc/gwc.htm.

I have started the course now and it's great.I esp' like the revamped 12 steps of 'AA' under the addictions section.Excellent.And that if you can't do something, don't fret, just lower your expectations. And that you don't have to directly confront people about problems, you can 'plant seeds'over time. And that addictions are self or subself--medications for psychological wounds and isn't a disease you have to repent for constantly. So many therapies require you to be addiction-free 1st.How can you?

Sam - to resolve the paradox of which comes first - managing active addictions or reducing inner pain and wounds, the key is hitting true bottom. This isnt subject to logic - it must come from within.

I really appreciate your videos so much. I am Japanese. I took phycological therapy for the last one year. I believe I have become much stronger mentally, but still suffer from chronic depression and low self-esteem. I have just begun to watch your videos, and already I feel as if I had my own therapist. Watching your videos make me calm and peaceful. I may ask you some questions soon or later. Anyway thank you very much, Dr Gerlach.

Thank you for your response. I suppose that even if there is a genetic predisposition towards OCD, it's almost guaranteed that it will manifest due to the anxiety imparted by one or both parents

I think you're incredibly insightful. From an extremely abusive childhood from very young when I lost my identical twin and also my mother, including abuse from churchgoers and a grandmother I went on to become a perfectionist in studies and looks. Thanks to my other nice grandmother I learnt to love and went on to have 9 beautiful children who I love dearly and have no trouble showing them. Their needs in every aspect come first and I hear everything they have to say.So the cycle can be broken!

I'm sorry to hear that, I am now enjoying your book Who Is Really Running Your Life?

NVC advocates separating judgments from observations so instead you "you're so selfish" ... "when you left the dishes out..."

it has a forumla for asserting (obserations, feelings, needs, request) and for listening by connecting to those things

    that's a very cosmetic descrip

if you would like to listen you can run a search for Marshall Rosenberg he's a bit of a saint really, he does make a 3 hour presentation

I believe this is a superficial, accurate description of how early-childhood trauma causes personality fragmentation and the formation of well-intentioned "false selves." See sfhelp.org/gwc/gwc.htm
