For LWT's Createathon, Stephen Poff created a series of photos depicting life in early Alabama History. In this video you'll get a behind the scenes look at the photoshoot and a peek into the lighting style that Stephen used to create these photos.

  • Hey Stephen, thanks so much for doing this video! It answered almost all of the questions I was just about to bother you with. lol

A few remain, however: what is an SP Studios strobe? Is it similar to the Alien Bees? What power are the ones you used here? And, finally, did you use a light meter for all of this?

    Thanks.

  • SP Studios is a cheap starter strobe kit that I got from B&H. As cheap as they are, they've been pretty useful. And no, I do use a meter sometimes, but on this I did not. I had a hoodloupe, so I could see my levels pretty good.

  • @DasMaddin: Thanks! Yes, the video footage was shot with the 5D MKII. My widest lens unfortunately does not work with the 5D and I needed it for this shoot, but the good thing was that it left it free to shoot video with.
