Moves in 8 directions, Cancel key to block and Enter key to attack.
To do the Special Attack, you got to counter-attack (that is, block and attack right after), good timing required..
The fighting system will really get interesting when you face several enemies simultaneously, I guess.

I played very awfully here because I wanted to show the moves, the places you could go, etc. (+ I had in mind to begin with a fight that I lose to show the evolution of the lifebar (eye), death and gameover. But now I regret a little, since it makes the video a bit too long..)

Made entirely with my own hands except for the sound effects, the 'old paper' texture and, i forgot to tell inside the vid, the 2 fonts used here.

-The setting is a panorama that I've drawn without reference on paper, then scanned (in) and added colors with free graphics editor 'The Gimp'.
- Both characters are made without reference adding pixels one by one from nothing on an empty charset that only allows 24x32 pixels max for each pose. :s
2 charsets of approximately 60 poses for both hero and boss each have been needed.
- Lighting effects, items from the setting that appear above the characters and HUD (the eye) are pictures created with graphics editor. Same for the message box and 'facesets', that I first drew on paper (then scanned etc..)

What is shown in this video is test/work-in-progress. Things to add are :

- Better sound effects, as this is almost the only thing which I haven't made myself, I used RTP sounds (except for the special attack), selecting the most appropriate ones.. But right now I have already collected some better sounds. :D
- Use of events to animate the setting... which seems quite necessary especially for the flag that remains miserably still here. xD
- Possibility to do combos.
- Special attack (s) for the boss as well. (a boss without special attack it looks quite poor here.. :x)
- Better sound quality for the music, hoping to replace the acoustic guitar rough recording by version arranged with music-editing softwares (still tried nothing right now, but it will come.. in time !)
- A lot of other things to improve that I don't have in mind now.

PS : I'm not really what you can call a manga fan :D, I'm more interested about real japanese history in the first place, so I use no 'SD'-shaped characters (which would have been much more easier to draw and animate in my opinion) and the background of my fiction will set in a realistic 16th century Japan environment.

... More exactly, for those who want to know, the story is set on a fictive mountainous territory outside Japan main islands with a people who have developped their own cultural er.. derivatives from Japan culture after getting into exile from the main islands centuries before.. (you can already find some slight clues about it on this map.)

  • Is This what Rpg maker 2003 looks like ( I mean the People.)

  • @DarkTriforceFilms

You mean the characters on the screen ?

No, the normal/basic type of characters you usually find in RM2k3 doesn't look like this at all at first, it is rather chibi super-deformed-like characters like in old RPG games.

  • @G4merGuy

lol I don't know Game Maker but no, there's no pure programming here if that's what you meant.

Only graphics, music and playing on rpg-maker "event" system to create a personal battle system that was not originally present in the software.

  • @mavadoman

oh...in that case then I take back how amazed I am bout the game...i have seen RPG maker and therefore am not impressed in the slightest
