Sapelle. Lots of ribbon(convoluted fiber)from his little preview trick with the water. And yes, it can be heavy. I hate the stuff, but hey its probably paying off some african nations war debt

Yes wiggum. More than likely sapelle(african mahogany). One of the dozen or so varieties that the forrest products service allows the lumber industry to lable mahogany for commercial purposes. All the sapelle Ive used, planes terribly. Buyer beware. Ask for the Latin name to be sure.

@xFLAMETIZZYx and whatever power toll you are going to buy be very careful with it, dont take the shortcuts to "cut faster"... because you only get to make about 2 mistakes until you lose your whole hand.
good luck.

@xFLAMETIZZYx Hand tools are cheap and good fun!

Crochet hooks? I can't believe you couldn't find at least one pen or pencil that would fit in that box.

Steve. Love the videos. I learn a lot. I am not sure where to buy it, but you could get a bowl carving kit (for your router) that comes with a collet extender. You just cut a template for the top and make progressive cuts to reach the depth. But I did like your method. Thanks again

I am 14 and have no woodwork machinery at all but I'm really into working with wood and want to get a proper nice workshop n stuff so how can I start of my workshop? Should I splash out on a band saw? Or a router? Or what about a scroll saw? Please let me know which and let me know a good cheap one. Thanks!

@xFLAMETIZZYx I would start with a table saw. You can pretty much make anything with that one tool. Probably a router would be the second most useful tool.

I understand having to cut off the dovetailed piece that was damaged, but why did you cut off so much?

@jdrury It really gouged out a lot. I took it down to the extent of the damage.
