well, that didn't really answer my question. and my question wasn't really a question - the sub-text was really saying that he covers all these really great songs and gets famous over covering, which totally pisses me off.

Well.....
he only started 5 years ago and just recently went solo. Sony used his "Heartbeats" song in a TV commercial (On YouTube) and the producers or "House" used this version of Teardrop in the show. Other than that... he is just really good.
If you need more proof... look up Carlos Santana.
