Monkey to be euthanized; owner speaks out

SPOKANE, Wash. - A macaque monkey named Chico, once blamed for hurling feces at federal agents, was going to be euthanized and tested for rabies on Monday.

But according to officials, the director of Spokanimal decided that the business has a moral objection to completing the task. The director is not saying that the monkey will not be euthanized, but is saying that if it happens, it won't happen at Spokanimal

but he took care of the monkey it like when you have a pet and you love him so much, but then it dies and its like someone from your family that dies. its so sad... i mean, people got feelings

Its obvious they were killing the monkey for other reason than rabies. On the other hand the monkey should not have gotten louse. Other animals that have bitten people have been killed as they posed a threat to society and so this one was.

I feel so bad for the man in this video. Being forced to allow his monkey to be put to sleep for something like throwing feces. Have these people NEVER been to zoos? The monkeys toss it at the crowd ALL THE TIME and these primates are not killed!

in the first place, monkey is not a pet!! it should be on the wild living with his fellow monkeys. so basically the one who took that monkey in the wild has a problem.

That's what monkeys do. They throw feces! We owend to capuchin monkeys and they would bite, they would throw feces. Thats what thes animals do. They will bite each other out in the wild. Sad :(

And if I may say. I worked for 31 years in the monkey labs. There are other test for rabies, I know, I've done them. But they are not as cheap as the exam of the brain. It is by far the easiest and cheapest way to test.

If it would help, I'd give them a macaque or vervet, certified clean from any disease

Sorry, but I fail to see how one little monkey was such a threat to Spokane. If the proper time was waited, and no signs of any disease was found, his blood was checked, then he should have been turned over to you with the agreement that you would find him a proper home. There are hundreds of agencies that would have took him. At least you would have known that he was alive.

Monkeys are not my favorite pet, but I understand where he is coming from, If some one hurt my pups, I'd want to kill them. They are my children.
