Daughter playing theme from Ice Castles on the saxophone reminded me to check this out .... I was 13, watching the Edmonton Eskimos play and at some point in the afternoon (during the interminable breaks that make up an American football game!) the 'Tokyo 1964' Olympics flag was unfurled, a lot of people and cameras started moving around the track, and then all the runners slowed down and Robby comes powering through! Funny to be reminded of this again ....

I was introduced to this film by a friend and i thought the makers of the film must of taken artistic liscense with the end of the race, but many years later i saw the real race and this exactly what happened. Unbeleivable! "I GUESS YOU DO HAVE A KICK SON"

I can't believe that Billy Mills is never mentioned on lists of great sports upsets. I heard that the track team didn't even issue him his own shoes. He had to borrow an extra pair from a teammate.
