This video is a little different.
Hopefully it will form part of a International Drum Collaboration between forum members at Vdrums.com and while my playing is far from where I would like it to be, this video is not about that.

The idea for the project was originally started last December by a great guy named Herl who sadly is no longer with us.

The brief was to record a piece at 105bpm based around a 4/4 rhythm and to submit a video to form part of a song.

The finished video will be a tribute to his memory.

For me, this short clip was far harder than I had thought it would be. Playing only to a click track and with 24 years of rust to off load, it has shown me how much I have to work on.

However, I am pleased to be making progress with my return to playing, but I'll continue to push harder to tighten up some areas and loosen up others!

Thanks for watching.

  • I love that fill you play at 0:54. Great stuff - really sounds like a double-kick fill, but I can see your right foot doing all the work - nice. That's one I'll have to practice at. :)

I've just been watching some more Ydna Murd here on YouTube - he's got some really nice paradiddle breakbeat ideas for drum n bass beats. You should check him out. I've been trying to learn some of his techniques, but I don't know if I'll ever achieve his kind of speed! :D

  • Thanks for the kind words. I used to have quite a fast right foot, but it is slowly coming back now.

Ydna Murd was a new name on me, but there are some great videos there, so thanks for that information!

  • some nice playing in there graham...that catalina looks and sounds great!

were you using a stock TD12 kit?

  • Thanks Gnitch, still so much to relearn and improve on though!

No, not a stock TD-12 kit

Splashes and China (high) are from the TD-10 TW1 while the rest is from a custom kit I made within the TD-12, although I have since improved a lot on the quality of these sounds an cured the kick trigger issue.

I have Superior Drummer 2.0 on the way as well, so that will be fun!
