Воин Красной Армии - Спаси!
Red Army Warrior - Save (us)!

The Battle of Berlin was the final major offensive of the European Theatre of World War II and was designated the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union.

Starting on 16 January 1945, the Red Army breached through the German front as a result of the VistulaOder Offensive and rapidly advanced westward as fast as 3040 kilometres a day, through East Prussia, Lower Silesia, East Pomerania, and Upper Silesia, temporarily halting on a line 60 kilometres east of Berlin along the Oder River.

During the offensive, two Soviet fronts (army groups) attacked Berlin from the east and south, while a third overran German forces positioned north of Berlin.
The Battle in Berlin lasted from late 20 April 1945 until the morning of 2 May and was one of the bloodiest battles in history.

The first defensive preparations at the outskirts of Berlin were on 20 March, when the newly appointed commander of the Army Group Vistula, General Gotthard Heinrici, correctly anticipated that the main Soviet thrust would be made over the Oder River.
Before the main battle in Berlin commenced, the Soviets managed to encircle the city as a result of the smaller Battles of the Seelow Heights and Halbe.

During 20 April 1945, the 1st Belorussian Front led by Marshal Georgy Zhukov started shelling Berlin's city centre, while Marshal Ivan Konev's 1st Ukrainian Front had pushed in the north through the last formations of Army Group Centre.

The German defences were mainly led by Helmuth Weidling and consisted of several depleted, badly equipped, and disorganised Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS divisions, as well as many Volkssturm and Hitler Youth members.
Within the next days, the Soviets were rapidly advancing through the city and were reaching the city centre, conquering the Reichstag on 30 April after fierce fighting.

СССР будет жить в нашей памяти навсегда!

  • @dusternm USSR didn't kill anyone. I don't know what's running around your ugly head. Stalin however that bitch is responsible for 10 million Soviet death. Altrough Germany should is responsible for killing 20 million Red Army soldiers and Civilians. But if you keep smoking that American propaganda, your head is going to explode

  • @234jari234

do you prefer obama than stalin

    i don't

  • @dobledosis1 I haven´t said anything about obama..

    Forever Alone!!

  • @234jari234 obama sucks

  • @234jari234 Humane methods doesn't mean giving up. I have to say that for example Finnish army they didn´t shoot those who escape. They just wait and give liitle time that those biggest terrifying and fastly running soldiers were again soldiers and then they were ready to go back in the field - voluntarily.

  • @Pantherace And what if the NKVD did not shot them.. then we would probably be living in a world of hate against the jews.

be happy it turned out this way, pherhaps if it dind't it would have cost more lives then it allready did

  • @234jari234 No, that is quite empty answer. You forget that Trotski have to do that same thing in Russian civil war when Soviet revolution nearly collapsed. There was only one right answer when there was problems in red army: shoot them, shoot more and shoot little bit more.

It´s funny that Stalin gave that order because bad military situation was his own fault and NKVD was pure criminal organization.

  • @Pantherace Any help was important. I've read, when in the Soviet ports workers unloaded from the Allied ships funny American tanks, in the tanks were found in cigarettes, small gifts... but most of all happy notes of warm encouragement.

  • @Pantherace Since the attack on Stalingrad by the Germans Stalin ordered EVERY Red Army Soldier to follow this order!

"Do Not Take One Step Backwards! Cowards And Traitors Will Be Shot!" - Joseph Stalin

Does this make t clear for you now?

  • @dusternm You are spreading hateful, opinionated, incorrect, and childish messages here. That's why you get such responses.
