The carving is done, the detailing is done, the sanding is done, and the first coat of oil has been applied. I started this piece in November. Working evenings and weekends, it has consumed nearly all of my spare time. I'm very glad to be finishing this piece right now. I'll put one more coat of oil (danish oil/mineral spirits mix) and call it done. The next challenge will be to come up with a way to pack it so that it can't move around. I've been mulling over some ideas. I'll probably post a video of what I come up with as a solution for this very fragile piece.

  • @jjdjustforfun The other videos in this series show some of the techniques I used to carve and sand this sculpture. I use three carvers: Foredom, NSK Z500, and a Presto air-driven hand-piece. The wood blank was about 12 X 10 inches to, the finished piece is 10 X 7.5 inches.

I haven't made a DVD for teaching techniques, but maybe I'll get to that in the future. Thanks for the query.

  • @duff835 - This is in the Elizabeth York Collection, so it's no longer available.

  • Thanks! - I'm thinking about the packing solution. I've come up with a couple of ideas to try that should work just fine. This will be the third such fragile piece I've had to ship, and the other two traveled very well.

  • But. Will it blend?

  • Very nice, as well scary delicate - It should be on a shelf after a good linseed oil soaking. Thanks

  • How much are you selling that for? Or if your not how much would you sell it for if someone insisted on buying it?

  • Good to hear and good luck! I hope you are well compensated for your amazing efforts.
