@LeahAC7 Cool, talking about song meaning :-) I had a complete misunderstanding of the song at first, but now I think it's about the speaker realizing that being "the king" is a lonely life of lying about being vulnerable ('never an honest word/but that was when...') and behaving unlike yourself (calling for ppl to be his mirror, weapon, and missionary) and choosing to lay it aside and just be himself as he is ('who would ever want to be king?').

It describes the change from boy to man, imo. :-)
