Kathy and I wrote this song with our friend Matt Mauser (of the Tijuana Dogs). It's a song about a desperate outlaw trying to outrace the law to the Mexican border. At the end of the song, you are never really sure if he made it or not. Where those "headlights up the road" the police waiting for him?

This song is from my first CD Rip Roarin' Rock'n'Roll and is available on CD.Baby.com and iTunes.

MEXICO

SEE THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE HIGHWAY
ONLY 80 MILES TO GO
THE SIRENS ARE LONG GONE BEHIND ME

OR COULD THEY KNOW WHERE I'M GOING TO GO - MEXICO
HAVEN'T SLEPT SINCE SAN FRANCISCO
YOU SAID YOU'D WAIT FOR ME I KNOW
ARE YOU STILL WAITIN AT THE BORDER
OR COULD THEY KNOW WHERE I'M GOING TO GO - MEXICO

AND I CAN'T SEE YOU - I CAN'T SEE YOU - I CAN'T SEE YOU MEXICO

HAVN'T MUCH LEFT TO GO NOW
SO CLOSE BUT STILL I JUST DON'T KNOW
CAN ALMOST TASTE YOUR SWEET KISS NOW
WHAT ARE THOSE HEADLIGHTS UP THE ROAD - MEXICO

AND I CAN'T SEE YOU - I CAN'T SEE YOU - I CAN'T SEE YOU MEXICO

  • Love your guitar playin', Old friend. Despite my ongoing health problms, a good blues rocking guitar player always leaves me feeling better. Thanks for keeping your stuff posted.

  • México.

    :)

  • Now that I finally have high speed internet I can watch some of these little films. This is one of my favorite songs. It is allusive, telling a story without telling us much, alloiwng us to fill in the gaps. I've heard two different recorded versions and heard it live. This is a Southern California song -- there are cars, a relationship that may or may not be strong, trouble, and a run for the border that does not involve Taco Bell! What else can you ask for?
