Casualties of Sri Lanka's conflict -28 March 08

The recent surge in fighting in Sri Lanka's civil war is taking a heavy toll on the country's civilian population. The Red Cross says more than two hundred people were killed and three hundred wounded in the first two months of this year alone, many of them children. Bomb attacks have become more frequent since the collapse of a ceasefire in January between the government and Tamil Tiger rebels. One of the worst was a bus bomb which claimed 22 lives. David Hawkins travelled to Dambulla to meet one family who lost their daughter in the attack.

Its a real tragedy how it is the innocents that pay the price in any war. In Sri Lanka's case, whenever the LTTE is attacked militarily, they will in turn target civilians to propagate their campaign of terror to further their goal of a mono-ethnic autonomous region. Again its Al jazeera who have provided an alternative look at popular headlines. Thank you..

thuraisthan, my views are not theories...these are independently proven acts of violence committed by the LTTE targeting civilians. The allegations of foul play committed by the SLDFs are just that...albeit much publicised as a result of pro-rebel web media. You say there is no free speech/media freedom in SL but then how do these allegations surface in the first place?Would have thought that a restricted media wont be making such allegations! Just my 2 cents!

The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) is a Terrorist State.

While on a U.N. Mission in Haiti the Government of Sri Lanka( GoSL) Soldiers Raped underage children in Haiti.

If they can do that under the watchful eye of the UN imagine what they are doing to the Tamils in Sri Lanka; where they control everything.
