VICTORIA - Judith Armstrong and her daughter Katia left Haiti and returned home to Vancouver Island in early January, just days before a massive earthquake struck.
Armstrong has been volunteering in the country for more than a decade.
She says Haiti was just starting to turn the corner when it was devastated by the quake.
Armstrong's adopted daughter Katia was born in Haiti and hopes to return in the future to help those in need.
Tuesday quake has made it difficult to communicate with people in the country, as most phone lines are down.
That has made it challenging for 20 year old Juniar Lucien who trying to contact her family.
Lucien is studying at Pearson College in Metchosin.
The director of Pearson College says Lucien's family has not shown up on the Red Cross's list of survivors and efforts continue to reach them.
