When I saw these dancers on the streets of Jaipur I realized immediately that they were men, and if I hadn't, the crowd that had gathered around was quick to tell me. According to one man, they dance in front of businesses, demanding a ransom of five to ten thousand rupees. According to my research, they are called hijra, and have very few other options of earning a living.
