@Odin029 I understand what you mean, and maybe limited isn't the right word. But back to Bob, I think he adds something to the band that Muddy wanted. I think he's better than a few guitar players that Muddy had in his band and not as good as some others, but I do know one thing. He studied Muddy's playing like a student studied from his master. If you look at a vid of Bob with Muddy, when Muddy start's playing, Bob's eyes are glued to the fretboard.
@Odin029 I agree, he certainly did have his pick of the best blues musicians at the time. I said "limited" based on the fact that when muddy was really kickin butt in the late 40s early 50s, he probably did not know many white musicians. I don't think socialy the blacks in chicago were hangin out at the same spots whites were. Also, I don't think there were alot of whites playing blues yet, it hadn't really came out of the black culture and crossed over yet. Thats all I ment by "limited".
@Immaculate416 I don't know about limited, Muddy's band had the best of the best from Otis Spann to LIttle Walter even to Francis Clay on drums. And then he replaced those guys with Junior Wells, James Cotton, Big Eyes Smith, Pinetop and so on. No from the beginning Muddy had his pick of the finiest blues muscians in the business. Then as white guys started learning and playing the blues he put some of the best in his band including Jerry Potnoy and Steady Rollin Bob who learned alot from Muddy
I don't know what you're smokin because Bopalena has it right. That old school, especially Muddy Waters, style is really hard to do because its so nuanced. And Margolin's Jewish by the way.
Margolin is a joke. Living off an association with Muddy. In Muddy's heyday, do you think he would have been hanging around Margolin? No way. He's too "white."

Muddy chose Bob to play with him. He wouldn't have played with Bob in his heyday because his pool of musicians to choose from was limited.
