Here's Bette Midler singing "Chattanooga Choo Choo" from one of her very early Tonight Show appearances starring Johnny Carson.

She also sings "Red" from her 1977 album Broken Blossom.

Features Barry Manilow

I realize my format is poor but I'm not entirely youtube saavy yet and can't figure out how to transfer VHS recordings to DVD then to youtube, blah blah blah...

I wanted to show it though... so enjoy Bette Midler!

  • well, she has succeeded in becoming the homogenized, pasteurized, disneyized vanilla performer she used to mock. so sad.

  • @mzmiller52 puh leeze... she only became more fabulous

  • I loved this Bette Midler . . . not so much now . . . sorry to say.

  • I'm curious: why not?

  • What's that song that she's singing at the very end?

  • The song is called "Red" and it's from her 1977 album, Broken Blossom

  • @mzmiller52

Jeez! Someone hand me some boots! The jealousy's gettin' THICK in here, tonight, boys!

  • @paul51 you're entitled to your opinion, but you gotta realize you can't always go around screaming about being a big whore with big tits all of your life, she's still bette, but a refined bette

  • Where can i get her singing chattaanooga Choo Choo song, its so good

  • i would like to meet her even tho i'm not a fan.

i would like to meet her to see if my guesses towards her personality are correct :p

  • shes not that pretty but her face makes me feel happy.

  • Funny, we never want Bette to retire, but Madonna, well...

  • Johnny Carson and Ahmet Ergeron: Two people the human race will never, ever see again (and I think Barry Manilow is getting there). Jim Forbes (the announcer for "Behind the Music") made two mistakes in that piece: First, the date from Bette's first Tonight Show appearance was November 1972 (not July 1970) and he should of called Johnny Carson "The King of Television". Because that's what I think he was.
