Miagao (Fortress) Church / Church of St. Thomas of Villanova / Iglesia de Sto. Tomas de Villanueva
22Dec09...Thought of dropping by the church premises for some respite from the noon heat...ended up taking shots & a clip.
This 2-century-+-old baroque masterpiece of limestone used to double as a fortress against invaders and other hostile forces (the structure was so located and positioned--uphill, & overlooking the coast and the mouth of a major river--as to offer an unobstructed view of the possible entry points of pirates & conquerors back then...those belfries also served as watch towers from where sentinels kept watch).
This is really a wonderful church ! WOW!
Happy holidays my dear friend to you and to your family :)

It was constructed while the country was still under Spanish rule. Well wishes your way too!

Maybe I can highlight its distinctive facade next time. Those scaffoldings got in the way :-) Cheers!
