This is my GI radio. its a Packard Bell the very same one used on the TV show Gillgan's Island. I added the antenna and handle just like the one on the show. this radio does work and work very well. Though I don't seem to get much news anymore about those seven straneded castaways.

  • Where did you get this radio footage? is it uploadable or is it taped off the tv. thanks.

  • @bfdtiger This is my Packard Bell radio

  • Talented radio --- able to play very well, even though the POWER SWITCH (volume knob), is set to "OFF"!

    :-D

  • @gadgetere It is very talented. It’s one of the most famous radios in TV. But all in all it’s just a TV prop. Just like everything else on the Island was. This radio does work but it only gets AM and this is one I built from a Packard Bell AR-851. I thought it would be cool to show the radio with the GI stuff playing. After all, it’s should be for fun that what the TV show was all about. It’s Not for Sale it's for Fun

  • That radio sure went through a lot on the island and always kept on working, lol..

  • Your video was fun, I'm glad you posted it. It was also fun realizing the radio was turned "off" while it was playing. This is like in Laws, California where a model train has a steam whistle sound, but uses a DIESEL engine. It's like in the movie "Jagged Edge" where Glenn Close changed outfits three times during the few seconds of cross-examination (off-white, black, and navy blue). It's just fun to observe things like that.

    I didn't mean to offend you, I'm sorry. ;-)

  • "JR", your video was very fun. The whole show was a blast --- I highly recommend Schwartz's book, "Inside Gilligan's Island". Don't miss his comment about "looking back on life and asking if you hurt people or help people. They promote sex violence and profanity on tv, telling people they don't affect anyone; then they sell commercials to AFFECT people --- you can't have it both ways."
