A one minute review of the Carry Speed LVF-32 V Finder.

One of the most difficult things about shooting with a DSLR is trying to achieve critical focus in bright daylight. The LCD screens on the back of the camera are notorious for washing out and becoming useless under the glare of the sun.

To combat this problem, pro shooters and amateurs alike, have turned to accessory LCD viewfinders. One of the first, and arguably still the best, is the Zacuto Z Finder. The Z Finder brought critical focus to thousands of shooters. The only downside to the Z Finder, is it's high sticker price, which is typical of Zacuto's professional level products. If you can afford a Z Finder, I highly recommend it.

For those of us with smaller wallets, there is the LCDVF, which is a cheaper alternative to the higher end Z Finder. The LCDVF design has become extremely popular and has been knocked off by countless companies.

Carry Speed is one of those companies, but with a big difference. Their version, known as the V Finder, features a couple of improvements. It has a larger eyepiece the cups the eye and keeps out any external light. More importantly, their LCD frame is thicker and heavier than the competitors, and features notched grooves that provide a much stronger connection.

Carry Speed V Finder Specs:
4:3 or 3:2 Aspect Ratio
2.5 X Magnification
2 Metal Frames
Neck Strap
Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

Pros: Notched Frame, Large Eyepiece, Less Expensive.

Cons: No Diopter, No Anti-Fog.

List Price: $59.99

  • I will try and post a video soon of what it looks like mounted on a GH1. Yup it does fit on the 16:9 screen, barely, but it does work. It's really one of the only LCD Viewfinders that does work with the GH1/GH2. For the money it's a good way to go.

  • @coltclipperton hey waiting for this to come in for my t3i. Anything I should know?

  • is nikon d7000 a 3:2 of 4:3

  • Any ideas on re-glue or affixing the bracket back on the camera?

Mine just fell off so I'm looking for a good adhesive.

  • Does this have a diopter?

  • So, did it mount properly on the GH1? I have the GH2 and while the evf is great, it's sort of uncomfy in the long run. Cheers!

  • Just bought one of these. Didn't expect much for only $40, but after walking around shooting with this on my 60D I'm sold. Seriously has fixed the only complaint I had with dslr video: squinting into a reflective LCD and trying to keep a moving subject in focus. Screw Zacuto and their expensive crap. This thing is perfect.

  • why are these so cheap? lol

  • I'm definitely thinking about getting this. Can these attach to the plastic LCD covers? I'm leery about sticking it to the unprotected LCD or trying to put the cover on and off when I'm using or not using this.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Mike, I just ordered LVF-32 for my GH2. It appears that the viewfinder should be used only when the LCD is closed, is that what you found to be true with your GH1?

Any tips you can share in mounting the frame to the LCD?

    Thanks, Richard Jett
