  • can someone tell me the difference in how to play a 12 fret and a 14 fret acoutic guitar because whenever i try to learn how to play a song on youtube its always with a 14 fret guitar

  • there is absolutely no difference in playing a 12 fret versus a 14 fret. the reference only indicates the fret number at the body / neck joint. the principle difference is the scale length and sound characteristics. both play the same.

  • Moving that bridge lower on the belly moves the top in a more musical, full-sounding way, but there's an application for the leaner sound of the 14-fretter as well.

For home playing, why have anything but a 12-fretter with a comfortable vee neck.

  • A luthier told me many years ago that the original concept for the guitar body was it should be a combination of two drums; one centered on the bridge and the other on the sound hole. Those early instruments were 12 fret but players demanded octive chords above the 12th so makers, not wanting to rejig, simply shifted the whole scale length, bridge and neck off centre.

  • Wow, those are 9 high frets with no cutaway, do you manage to reach them somehow or you just don't need them for your playing style?

  • What I have learned from this video is that you play very well, and it's you that make difference, not guitar... great!

maybe they are right when they say that sound is in the musician (heart and fingers) non in the instrument...

(I'm sorry for my bad english)

  • why do i have to lie down to see this properly?

  • Obviously different guitar companies will use different measurements. His Martin "12 fret" dreadnought has a 20 1/4 body, but you will find them with 21 inch body, etc. From what I've read the larger body cavity can potentially produce more sound and perhaps richer overtones then a 14 fret sister guitar. In any case both of yours sounded great.

  • Both are great. I think your style is more suited to the 14 fret. Thanks for sharing. :)
