@LionOfMing Chiang's own Huangpu army was virtually wiped out fighting in Shanghai and Wuhan. Of the 7000 Huangpu officers, only 3000 were left after Shanghai and Wuhan. Also, Chiang's own Huangpu army consisted of conscripts. All of his German trained divisions, his most elite units were annihilated in Shanghai. Now, how exactly did Chiang 'kept his professional army for himself'.

Funny how General Joe Stilwell wrote in his journal adressing Chiang as "Peanut."
-
@LiouTao Did you miss the part in which Chiang Kai Shek kept his professional army for himself, and after the war to combat the communist? And only using the conscripts to fight the Japanese?
-
the generalisimo was a dick head!!!!!!
-
do a search for jay taylor: the generalissimo to hear a more balanced perspective of chiang kai-shek. mao killed more chinese than the japanese ever did.
-
@donguinto chiang did squat only after 1943, when the war was clearly gonna be won. One could hardly call the battle of Shanghai, battle of Wuhan and battle of Taierzhuang as being squat.

the nationalists sound like the modern day republicans in the US.

@championofcathay Chiang's leadership skills were quite sound. He was able to halt the Japanese advance and preventing them from further incursion into China. He knows his troops are inferior in every way against the Japanese, and that he only has 2 advantages against the Japanese:
1. He has more troops
2. Japan is a small nation, China is a large one.
He was able to fully utilise these advantages to successfully halt Japanese advance and await for allied assistance.

@CaptainCool07 This documentary did mention that Chinese soldiers would be among the best soldiers of the Allies, if properly trained and properly led.
-
@LiouTao He's not saying the NRA soldiers and officers did nearly squat. He's saying as the head of state ofthe ROC and the commander of its large armed forces, Chiang's lack of leadership skills was unexcusable!
Great documentary! It gives helpful insight and understanding towards the success of the Communist Revolution, the reasons why the Nationalists failed, and the political situation in China during that time.
