This is a continuation of Djalu making an incredible yidaki for me, the earlier video is here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqSYGdxRmQU

After the angle grinder, the instrument was put on a drum sander, then hand sanded with sandpaper, and finally sealed on the outside with PVA glue before it was painted by Dopiya with a stunning gapu design.

Last, Vernon let's the stick rip as only he can!

I can't fault this stick on any count, there's so much to like about it not least of which is its ability to respond STRONGLY to tongued accents. The air column pops like nothing I've played or heard before. I guess I like it so much because I can play the yidaki and everything comes out right, and I can sound like Vernon, Djalu or Larry without trying too hard. It's a cheat's instrument I know :-)

  • @Koelngeist2 Just learn how to circular breath and you wont have a problem

  • fantastic sound !!!very nice yidaki

  • @Koelngeist2 never too late!!!

  • @DrRost2 - you're already halfway there! Just google IDIDJ and click on the store tab near the bottom of their page. If U don't see what U want, just ask for it - there's many more. If prices shock you - consider that a maker must travel far into the bush, find and cut a suitable tree (not easy as most are unsuitable), carry it back to the vehicle, work it into a didj and paint it. An online seller has to find a buyer, ship it (probably 70-80 USD) and pay the VAT, or duties tax ($300 USD maybe).

  • very nice video! how can i buy didj?

  • Very cool to see the whole family effort in the making of this yidaki. Such an inspiring video on so many levels.. thanks to you ALL!!!

Sound reminds me of Baywara Power stick played by Larry some time ago on one of your great vids

    thanks

  • I almost forgot to say....Dopiya's artwork is excellent too! As is Vernon's playing! That Yidaki sounds like Liquid Cream!

  • Djalu is AWESOME! I can't believe how hard he works! And how much Heart and Soul he had put into that Yidaki! This video is wonderful!
