hey dude how do you keep your generals charcoal pencil so sharp?? Mine always breaks off in the sharpener :(

@lnsordo91 it's a challenge. I try to get them sharp enough so that I can get details, but not so sharp that they break immediately. I also keep keep some dull ones around for blocking in dark areas and tone. You could also look for a sharpener that cuts at a less acute angle. I think sometimes though you just get bad pencils - the charcoal seems to be broken internally and breaks off in the sharpener no matter what.

this is really cool and creative. how'd u come up with that?

I used to work as a police sketch artist. I wanted to do a project using composite drawing techniques for people other than criminals, so I came up with this.

hey shawn can you tell me a bit about your recording setup. I'm looking into recording my drawing process, any tips or help would be much appreciated...

I used a 10-yr-old Canon Optura DV camera mounted on a tripod pointed straight down onto my drawing board. Recorded via firewire using iStopMotion capturing at one frame per second. Edited with Final Cut Pro. I hope to get a newer HD camera at some point for better quality.
