In this demonstration, we show single core, single thread implementation of OpenSPARC T1 processor mapped on Xilinx ML411 board, with Virtex-4 XC4VFX100 FPGA device, booting hardware virtualization software and running text based adventure game program ("standalone C program" for the geeks).

  • It is a FPGA board, it is not an ATX, an FPGA is a special chip that can be programmed by the user to be exactly whatever he wants it to behave as.

It can a be a processor, a controller, whatever. In this case, he programmed the FPGA to be a processor. A FPGA is used by digital hardware designers, because they first can create a prototype and afterwards when they are sure the design works, they can create a chip in a factory. Hope this explanation helps.

  • Awesome!!

This is a boon to s/w designers. A 32 threaded nexg-gen processor emulated on an FPGA!!! opensparc rox!!

  • Who produces Opensparc on silicon?

  • how fast is it? 100 Mhz plus?

  • what the technical spec for compiling T1?

we have to reduce the thread to succeed the compilaton

  • Intel, AMD, Etc have information about hardwire inside processor and inside architecture closed to manufacturer and displazing only x86/64 interface to user.

Sun Published freely all hardwire info/instructions for its Sparc processors as OpenSparc. Anzone can build processor if wanted and also can use Xilinx platform to dznamicallz Hardwire Cpu and execute OS and programs on it. It is mostly used for testing design changes of CPu in practice before production.

  • lol noob...read the title and do some research before posting something that makes you look like an idiot!

  • Damn.

  • Good Job!, stay on course!

Can we emulate an MP3 codec?, where can we find some examples?
