Nearly 200 wooden steamships of World War I vintage, some younger iron ships and some older log canoes and a revolutionary war ship lie in the muddy shallows of Mallows Bay on the Maryland side Potomac River downstream from Mattawoman Creek. I paddled there from Smallwood State Park, investigating a twisting small creek before arriving at the ship graveyard.
