Recorded on February 12, 2009. MSN Money's Jim Jubak explains the forces that drive the price of gold which is mostly "fear" and how to traditionally spot its "classic top". Jubak is generally more pessimistic on the U.S. economy, but he's also a fundamental investor and not a gold bug.

  • After Gold brings justice to the dollar, next, everyone will need silver too. And since the rate of silver production VS consumption VS the ever increasing need for money that isn't a dollar bill.....hmmm. I wonder what silver will be valued at?

  • @shumanitutonkaowachi - Be fearful when everyone is buying, but be brave when everyone is fearful.

  • so from what you say this has got little to do with the federal reserve having printed 1.2 trillion dollars in september 08, 1.8 trillion dollars in march 09. no connection? and we are in fact looking at people acting fear silly busting gold up artificially.

i tend to disagree. i think we've lived beyond our means long enough, i think we've kept the fiat currency high artificially (or the silver and gold down artificially) and soon gold and silver will bring the dollar to justice.

  • Some of it is speculation that the Fed is going to blow it on inflation, but I disagree with you and any investor who is betting on inflation on fear that the dollar is to be worthless. The net worth of America is 370 trillion. As stated in another video of mine you must ask the question, what is the net worth, and once you figure that out you find immediately that it far encapsulates the debt america has.

  • I wish Jim would get back to doing his video reports as well as the occasional written articles. He does a good job in both formats.
