As an avid fan of Handel's Messiah, I found it amusing the way they so cleverly presented the song. Sometimes they had to be kind of quick on the draw. And given that the audience was filled with friends, parents, siblings, and classmates who knew the identities of the "monks," that made it even funnier to them. I don't think it was a matter of cultural ignorance or disrepect. It was just so cleverly & adeptly presented that it had to make you smile (at least.)!
