Yann Tiersen spends the majority of his money on new bow hairs.
Also, I'm working on this piece too. The really percussive part is still out of reach, but I'm trying.

your so right first time i watched him play this piece i was amazed then later on that month got the script for it. its all in performances, if you don't feel the instrument then this piece isn't for you.

It certainly wont take you 20 years. If you look at the sheet music, its actually not that complicated :D
Its the performance what makes it special.

That's the power of music.
I've seen him live 7 times (yep! I'm a huge fan!) and it's always a magical experience. I've also met him and he is the sweetest man... ever! very shy guy...
