This sound only happens when the compressor starts after having been off for quite a bit of time. It happens fairly often each day (at least three times). It is always this loud, and always has the two or three knocking sounds at the beginning, followed by the jackhammering sound, and then ending with the same few knocking sounds. Each event sounds exactly like this one does, and can happen in the morning, during the day, or at night.
