  • @Sum4life23 Read the Chernobyl forum reports. The LNT model predicts that your grandfather will have a few percent higher lifetime risk of cancer than someone who was not at Chernobyl; this increase in cancer rates among liquidators has not been observed to date.

This could either mean that the LNT model is rubish or that the latency before the increase in cancer rates is observed is longer than 2 decades.

  • @videomasterftw Rubish. The chernobyl forum(consisting of WHO, IAEA, UNEP, FAO, UNDP, UNSCEAR etc.) have performed the most comprehensive studies of the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster to date.

They have not observed an increase in death rates or cancer mortality among the 600 000 most exposed. According to the LNT model they expect 4000 excess cancer deaths, which have so far failed to materialize. 45 liquidators have died from direct consequences(e.g. acute radiation sickness).

  • @PaintSniffer07 No. There were no neutrons to absorb and the molten fuel never pooled in such a way as to become critical(which is what neutron absorbers were meant to prevent); so their lives were wasted.

  • how do you compare msv to roentgens.

  • There was no evidence of any of the material dropped by the helicopters ever reaching the reactor...due to the rods, graphite blocks and the tangled steam pipes together with the cap blocking it. The core itself leaked through the bottom and mixed with the sand that was filling the gap in the containment wal.

  • waiiiiiiiiiiit.

my grandpa was an liquidator, and he is still alive, u mena hes one of the 4?

  • did they know that they where probably going to die

  • On the roof it was 14.000 roentgens per hour. That's 233 roentgens a second. And the recommended dose of a life time is 7 roentgens. Its bisarre

  • there was around 1,000,000, as of 4-4-09 four of the Liquidators are still alive,, all four and suffer from effects of chernobyl
