www.fatsoundguitars.com • Graham Fry, late of the 80's metal band Confessor, and currently playing with Tonk, Leadfoot & Stella Lively caught unawares noodling at Fat Sound Guitars through the Vox Night Train's Thick mode. Camcorder mic' only...with a bit of top end clipping; especially after turning up the gain control.......totally candid:
Amplifier - Vox Night Train
Cabinet - Port City 112 OS Wave with Vintage 30
Guitar - Fender Custom Shop '63 Tele Super Relic (Nocaster bridge / Twisted Tele neck)
Player - Graham Fry
Camcorder - Canon Vixia HG20 1080p
Audio - Camcorder's onboard microphone set a tad too high

  • I keep watching this clip, love it, but I believe the cab is the 1x12 and not the 1x12 OS. I only say this because I'm about to pull the trigger on a PC cab and if I'm correct then the 1x12 will do me just fine. Help a brother out... is it the 1x12 or 1x12 OS ?

  • @KingKramerTV Hey...glad you enjoyed the clip. The cab is definitely an OS. We special ordered a batch of them with the vintage Marshall style grille to sell with the Night Train heads. Fantastic cab! Great pairing!

  • I have the night train head with a 1x12 Celestion blue Vox TV cab and want to go to 2x12 Celestion Blues. Would you suggest getting an additional 1x12 TV Cab with a blue in it or a 2x12 cab? The reason that I thought about the 2 TV 1x12 cabs is to be able to break it down and put it in my car as well as use only 1x12 at smaller gigs. Is there any disadvantage sound wise to doing it with two 1x12 cabs?

  • @titrator I don't think you'll see any appreciable difference...maybe more focus with 2 1x12 cabs and a bit more swirl and openness with a 2x12, but if portability is vital then the dual 1x12 cab's should work just fine. Also consider mixing a different speaker with your Blue such as a Greenback or G12H30 for added low end and a bit more headroom. This would sound even better with this amp IMO and give you greater versatility in the ability to mic' one or the other for recording and/or live stuf

  • Sound good with Vintage 30, but I wonder how it would sound with Alnico Blue?

  • Actually, if you are thinking of using Celestion Blues with this amp it works best through a dual Blues 212 cabinet rather than a single Blue 112 cab.

The single Blue is very nice for the clean mode at lower volume settings, but doesn't work nearly as well in the Thick mode or on the clean mode with the Volume above half way.

The ultimate is either a dual Blues loaded open back 212 cab or the Port City 112 OS Wave with Vintage 30.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • Ha ha! O'l Graham! I remember you dude, from way back in the day...oh, 'round 1988 when I called and you guys came out to play some shows in my hometown a couple thousand miles away! I can't believe you actually came out to H-town! Great great band, Confessor was.

  • This is the tone everyone would like to reach... *_*

  • @aubreywithoutYou Yeah I was wondering the same thing actually... I wish someone would clarify this.

  • wow, great tone and great playing. Best demo of this amp

  • @titrator you can only use one cab with this as it only has 1 16 and 1 8 ohm out. :)

  • Hi everyone, have a quick one for everybody! Is it possible that my vox NT has a little less volume than my Pathfinder 15r? I got my NT checked last week by service, change valves and everything seems to be ok...any clue?

  • Absolutely amazing tele you got there!!!! \m/

  • that SOOOOOOOO SWEAT :D

  • Great tone, great guitar, great playing and a great amp - my next purchase in fact. Cheers.
