Hello Luke,
It still has the stock transaxle. Stock gearbox, prop but a uprated clutch. It's got a welded differential.

So, how much work was it to fit in the drive shaft yet the whole engine?
a light-weight, rear-wheel-driven car with perfect weight distribution and a potent turbo engine. Sounds interesting

It doesn't need any work, as the turbo-engine-base is exactly the same as standard for the volvo 1.4. (Renault C1J and Volvo B14)
Same for the B17FT from the volvo 440.
Same for the Clio williams engine..
Same for the redblock Volvo engine (up to standard 200pk)
Depending on engine you want to use, you need a Volvo 340 1.4, 1.7 or a Volvo 360 2.0.
Life is easy :]

well initially i planned to buy a cheap 340 or 360 and put the B230FT engine from my dad's old 740 in it. but then he sold the 740 cause the turbo started leaking and my dad didnt want to repair it . dunno if the engine wouldve fitted in a 340 at all
Did you do any changes to the steering in your volvo? I've test driven one and steering felt quite unresponsive..

It would have fit kind of directly. It's done before many times.
Shocks and springs needs to be done for a good respons.
