Great scene. . . and sadly, a biting indictment on the condescending 'status' accorded all writers. . . "just like our house. . . I work, and my husband putters around the house." This scene infuriated one of my English college professors- 29 years later, now I know why.

You might try reading A Prayer for Owen Meany, another great John Irving book. I loved it!

Great book. This piece of film tells me not to bother seeing the movie because as usual Hollywood has turned something tasty into something lukewarm and insipid.

I just finished it like two days ago. Picked it up for $1.21 at a thrift store. I devoured it and I don't normally like fiction - it was like someone's life story, or rather, all the odd things/events about the various people we know in one person. Remarkable.
