Here is the 24th The Rainbow Mandrills song on Youtube "Stuck Between" sung by Tony Pappas in Chicago. Just call Tony a full fledge member of The Rainbow Mandrills right Tony ;-)
The lyrics... it requires you to hear the close to the whole story to understand this one ;-) where to start ............. I have been a Black Crowes & Warren Haynes Gov't Mule fan for years. I have had health problems since 1990 which basically wouldn't allow me to any show (leave the bedroom is a clearer way to put it) anyway The Black Crowes have always been good to me, the flowers I'm holding in the car at the start of the video are to say a BIG Thank you to a lovely member of the TBC crew who has helped me over the years, so the flowers Rich are holding are the same flowers for her ;-) 2010 I got on a new regime of exercises & by summer 2011 I was able to say "I am going to go attempt Warren Haynes in London in July" ;-) very excited, get the tickets with a brochure advertising The Black Crowes for the week after!!! Now The Black Crowes went on their indefinite Hiatus in December 2010, so I was very very surprised they were having ANOTHER final set of shows 7 months later ;-) , with a bit of help ;-) some tickets fell into my lap (THANK YOU people who know who you are! ;-) !!) & I was going to 2 dreamt about shows in a 7 day span!! Warren Haynes on the 5th of July was a Great show (please search "Wildfire & Wild Dreams The Rainbow Mandrills" to see some fun of that experience. I had 7 days to recover... to say I felt the after effects of the journey to Warren for a month you will understand I was just on Adrenaline for the Crowes and not feeling in GREAT condition (true I was great compared to the previous 20 years but very un-great on a regular person's scale HaHa) but with my great family I got back up to London to see the Crowes ;-)
Now here is where it gets pretty unique, I'm sure Chris & Rich have wrote plenty of songs backstage of a Crowes show & Jammed a few ideas on stage but I wonder how many fans have written a song in the MIDDLE of a Black Crowes show?? Well Stuck Between's chorus was written about 1 hour into the TBC show July 12th 2011. I had a tonne of stuff in my head but had a moment of inner stillness where the chorus popped up in my mind ;-) I will just explain the meaning of the chorus then. "Stuck between torture & Joy" that's a literal Rich, Chris & The black Crowes are over there 30' away, I have been waiting SOOOO long for this "JOY", but at the same breath my headache was HUGE & my body was drained quite like "Torture". "I'm weighed right down on the edge of the light" meaning I dream of the Rainbow Mandrills doing gigs, the Black Crowes had Rainbow coloured lighting on stage i had already thought COOOOL if the Mandrills get on stage I gotta have Rainbow coloured lights !! ;-) but again here I am feeling like a sack of lead in the wheelchair zone feeling like Dr Martin Luther King "I have BEEEN to the Mountain Top and I have SEEEEN the Promised land I may not get there with you but WEEEEEEE as a people will get to the Mandrill Land" something like that ;-) "The things I have seen have warmed this cold boy" it was a great week that will stay with me, the memories of the 2 days have lasted a lot longer than the aches & pains ;-) & cold boy is in reference to the Black Crowes song "Cold Boy Smile" "I'm ready to be with the one I love" is coming from the same place as the Bridge and "I take a piece of you, my heart melts it to , cool calm waters, to soothe the roars" I kept thinking of the lovely Stella & just thinking of her calmed me down & I revved up for more show ;-) The roars & tigers & stuff are the crowd, great crowd my kind of people but when you are feeling rough & HIGHLY not used to spending a evening with 2500 people the Roar of the crowd was as head pounding as exhilarating ;-) the London section is mixed with praise & admiration for the city, History , the fact that virtually every great musician & star has performed in London & the other side the very obvious feeling of Many of the people walking down the street looking like their spirits are being crushed, London you drive me crazy but I need you now. Same about relationships sometimes too right ;-) thats why I flipped the meaning of that. The rest is a road story ;-)
