John hanson was not black the person in the photograph is confused with the earlier john hanson who was white to prove this is the photograph photography didn't even exist in the 17 hundreds so it would be impossible to have a photograph of him the person in the picture is john hanson from Liberia and was associated with the american colonization society and that was in the 1860 not john hanson from 1779

Thats not John Hanson, thats John Hanson....photographs werent around until the 1800s, John Hanson the President died in 1783. The first permanent photograph wasnt made until 1822.

That picture youre showing is John Hanson a Liberian Senator.

Oh, and technically speaking, the first President was actually Samuel Huntington...John Hanson was the first to serve a full term

i know that it fills the ego ( certain minds) to believe that the actual PICTURE of john hanson is a black man ( nothing wrong with that).

Reading these comments on this page is a breath of fresh air the commentators on this page done their research and are true scholars. I'm so happy they're are no comments claiming that it is a lost historical fact that the first President of the United States was a Black Man. It's almost offensive to the Black Community too because it is so petty. They should respect the Black John Hanson for buying his freedom and becoming an activist for the back to Africa movement even more.

You realize that John Hanson was a senator from Liberia and part of the back to Africa movement right? John Hanson, the president of the First Continental Congress was a white, slave owner. You have the two confused.

Also, take into account there is a famous photograph of him. The first permanent photograph was not made until about 100 years later in France. Ever wonder why you don't see a picture of George Washington, but there is miraculously a picture of this man? You're facts are wrong.
