The Hindustani Devgandhar is quite different. Abdul Karim was familiar with Karnatak music from his stay in Mysore and journeys to South India, during one of he died.
Didn't Ustad Abdul Karim Khan Saheb sing in Baroda Gaekwad's court?
I used to listen to this voice as a child on All India Radio. May be that's why I like/love classical music, despite the fact that I don't understand it at all.
Ustad Abdul Karim Khan along with pandit DV Paluskar remain perhaps the best melodious classical voices ever in the history of recorded hindustani classical music.
