Lucio Fulci's Zombie: English/Italian audio sync

Like most Italian films of the 60s and 70s (primarily westerns and horror films), Zombie was shot without sound, and with its actors speaking multiple languages. The lead actors (in this case, Ian McCulloch and Tisa Farrow) spoke English while the supporting players (in this case, Al Cliver and Aurretta Gay) spoke Italian. This being said, no version of the film has had proper in-sync dialogue for all actors. Either the English speaking actors are in sync while the Italian actors aren't, or vice versa.

This being said, this scene is a test video combining elements from both the English and Italian language releases, to create the most properly synced audio yet. This gives a general idea of what this scene would've been like if shot with sound and the actors were still speaking multiple languages.

FANTASTIC WORK!! I'm curious, are you intending to do the entire movie, or did you just do this for demonstration purposes? The most perfect possible version of this movie would be it in its original aspect ratio, original Italian opening and ending credits, and original English and Italian languages throughout, with removable English subtitles for the Italian audio.. although we all know no company is ever going to do this. (Actually, i think you've just inspired me to give that a shot!)

Well, I'd like to try this someday, but I also know I'd like to get a proper translation of the Italian dialog as opposed to just using "dubtitles". Although I have a friend who speaks Italian, so she may come in handy :-b

you are a "F"n genius!!!! that is brilliant my friend.... that sets the scene as well as the mood for this flick.... you made this work of art ....well...a work of art.... LOL.... you should do this as a hobby and post a re-edited version on some torrent websites and while ur at it you should ad some modern sound fx and rip some modern music (and modern horror sound fx music ) and go to town with surround sound too.......updated audio could do wonders in the "scare" department . KUDOS

Smart work! I wish they would do this with all of Argento and Fulci's films. The obvious dubbing is really distracting much of the time.
