For the start of the guitar solo, try this: Hold the whammy in your right palm & push down on it as you hit the open G string, then let the whammy bring the note UP to open G). Next note, (whammy down a full step or so, hit the harmonic of the open G string at the 12th fret, then let the whammy bring the note up to the harmonic G at the 12th fret. Next, whammy DOWN the open G again, & let the note come back up. Next, whammy down again, then hit the harmonic at the 5th fret (open G string).

@JeffTBPlayer That's interesting, Classical guitar is what I first started playing many years ago. There are a few people who use thumbpicks though. But not many. I guess you would see that more in the Bluegrass style.
