This is Ghostlop by Data East, made in 1990. This is a very tricky puzzle game where you can throw 2 ball colors which are Red and Blue. You use the red ball to destroy the red ghosts and the blue ball for the blue ghosts. The cool part about the game is that you can change the ball color in mid-flight and create combos. The player to eliminate the most ghosts in the time allotted wins.

Even though the game was never officially released by Data East, the prototype is actually a 100% complete game. I do not know why they did not release it. It could be maybe Data East felt that the control scheme was maybe too difficult to catch on to.

  • hey you wouldnt happen to know the name of the similar game but with a little lizard or dragon type thing instead of a guy would you??

  • You mean Puzzle Bobble/Bust A Move?

  • Nice music edit on the Neo Geo splash screen...

  • Thanks, I did that in Garage Band. Made some custom pedal effects.

  • Yeah I agree it would be great if they released it on Xbox Live or the Wii VC. All of Data East's Neo Geo games are great with Dunk Dream being my favourite. Your new Jamma Nation X intro looks pretty cool by the way.

  • Nice video. It's good to see more footage of this on Youtube. We both had the same idea. It's a pretty good game and it's a shame it was never officially released. I think it would have been popular.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing ghostlop released again on the XBLA and PSN with online co-op ~_^ Realy i think it would sell well on that format.

  • Unfortunately, Ghostlop is currently the only game that we are remaking that didnt make a release Overseas from the Data East Catalogue.

  • Hey Alex how are you buddy? So Ghostlop is going to be released officially now? That's great news. Were there any other Data East Neo Geo games that were never released but were already in programming stages that can be completed and released or was Ghostlop the only one?

  • I couldnt help notice my name being discussed on this thread, but i would like to keep you updated on what G-mode is doing. With this i am proud to let you know that we are currently working on Ghostlop game in 1 form or another for a downloable console that is expecting a release soon, This is all i can about this project unfortunately. I also want to thank you Data East fans for keeping this IP alive and supporting Data East Retro Classics.

  • Thanks a bunch dude. The logo wasn't easy since it's all jpegs.

Dunk dream is fun to play against someone but I think my fave Date East Neo game by far is Windjammers. I just love the way it plays. It's a really deep play system compared to Flip Shot especially.
