  • the whole song is mostly based off of c shaped Dom7ths right? or am I completely off?

  • The basic chord shapes are all from the Rev.Gary Davis/Dave Van Ronk style (Dave was my teacher and friend, and Davis was his). Essentially, what would in first position be the C7, F, and Bb shapes, with the thumb coming around the neck to get the 6th string for the F shape and the 5th and 6th strings for the Bb shape.

  • Love it! I wish you'd post some more songs of this era. They're great listening and useful instruction. Thanks.

  • @WayneKotke What's ironic about that? I don't think their version of this song is one of their better recordings, but they obviously are in a very different class from me when it comes to musical genius, or--at the time they did the recording--in terms of youthful energy.

  • The Beatles' version is better than yours, ironically.

  • I love the Beatles and I love your book.

  • That was cool ! ! !

  • I loved hearing your story! My Italian American grandfather was also born in 1906, and he used to sing this song.
